Las Vegas Market is the place to see a wide assortment of new and trending home furnishing products for interior designers and retailers. The show is held twice a year and features thousands of manufacturers. At this year’s January market, here are the top buzz words and top trends for 2014 from the recent reviews.
TOP 10 Home Trends or 2014
1) Value in investment, where quality is king! (i. e. new variations in wood finishes and unique detailing)
2) Livable Luxury & Glamour. Shimmering metallics, embroidered details on textiles, as well as Greek motifs.
3) Modern Luxury. Combining Lucite, metals, and even lacquer.
4) The Nautical Look. This style draws inspiration from cottage style furniture, but takes it to a whole new level with a palette of colors inspired from our landscapes; the ocean, the dunes, marsh grasses, shells, sun and beaches.
5) 1920’s Glamour seems to be infusing in all categories of home design and furnishings.
6) Bohemian 1970’s Chic; upholstered seating with vibrant colors and patchwork fabrics from all over the world.
7) Neutral Tones. As in 2013, neutral finishes in furniture and upholstery are still quite popular and they continue to be played up with bold accents pieces to make a space pop!
8)Blues, Blues, Blues. As seen on the fashion runways, blue, in all its shades, is prominently shown in decorative accents, furniture, and paint, and is especially showcased with silver or gold.
9) Tufted Upholstery. Accent seating with tufted upholstery remains popular with its luxurious, yet comfortable style.
10) Orchid seems to be the color of the year! Mostly used as an accent to any space, this dynamic color goes well with gray and purple tones, and is seen in wall art, pillows, decorative accents, and our favorite, velvet fabrics for headboards and accent seating.
It may be raining and snowing but you can still bring the garden inside with various pieces full of color and style. Brighten up your space with bold colors, whimsical patterns, and bold pieces.

Shades of Gray are here to stay!
Gray was the hot trend this year and it’s going to continue to be the color into 2014. To be on trend, pair it with jewel tones of amethyst, plum, or citrus tones.
Gray is the new neutral and big retailers have a lot to do with its popularity. There is definitely the retail trend. Also, the reclaimed wood trend, especially with the gray wash, is very popular at the Las Vegas World Furniture Market shows.
This neutral color goes beyond boring beige and has a chameleon effect depending on the style and decorative elements in the room. It can go from classic elegance to contemporary edgy. Accessorize with pops of bright colors or ground it with any combination of white, black, tans, and browns. There is no question, Gray is here to stay.
In our home, life revolves around the dining table. It is the place where we gather with family and friends, where daily meals are served, where our daughters do their homework, where we hold our meetings for work, and where we create many long-lasting memories.
Finding the right dining table creates a strong foundation for this important gathering spot. A few years ago we purchased a large trestle style dining table with two 18″ leaves to extend the table size for large gatherings. The trestle style allows for many chairs to be added around the table. We made sure it had a high quality finish to withstand our daily wear & tear, while keeping with a timeless, rustic old world style.
These days dining tables are being placed right in the kitchens and spaces that transition into living areas making them the focal point of the home. New homes (and remodeled homes) are even creating their designs around this idea. Hence, furniture manufacturers are being challenged to make functional dining tables that meet the needs of hardworking homes with durable finishes and quality materials at attractive price points.
So what are the emerging trends in dining tables? Here are some of the popular tables that are being featured at World Market in Las Vegas and at High Point furniture shows in 2013.
Contrasting materials like rustic reclaimed woods with steel, iron, and metal bases.
While reclaimed wood furnishings have been popular for a while now, it is refreshing to see a new refinement in wood finishes and the use of exotic woods as well.
There are so many styles to be inspired from these days from rustic modern, glitz and glamour, industrial style, to french inspired designs. Whatever your style is, we hope you make your dining space beautiful and functional for a long time to come!

Last October we posted a seating guide to various size dining tables. We are re-posting this guide due to overwhelming inquiries we get on this topic. We have also included some great diagrams in this post to help you find the size and shape of a dining table that is most suitable for your space.
The diagrams show typical dimensions you will find while shopping and they can vary slightly. We have based this information on chairs that are maximum 20″ wide. The allowance between chairs should be a minimum of 2″-6″. When seating arrangements are at a 2″ allowance it is considered tight and may involve some interference with table legs. Therefore, it is probably best suited for occasional use, holidays, etc..
TIP: We highly recommend that you always really take the time to measure the space before purchasing a table. You can easily do this by marking out the ideal measurements with painter’s blue tape on the floor. By doing this, you will be able to view how much space is left for seating guests comfortably around the table, as well as for added pieces such as buffets, consoles, or even rugs.
